Today Mickey had his appointment at the ophthalmologist and by the looks on his face in this picture he was not a happy camper. Luis was off and he took him to the doctor. He has improved but still not to the extent that the doctor had wished.
Luis sent me this picture to my cell while I was at work. My eyes filled up with tears as I saw the pout on his face. I called him immediately and he told me crying that he did not like what he had on his eye.
The doctor recommended that we patch his eye all day and then let him rest after he has taken a bath and ready for bed. Mickey has a follow up appointment on July 18. So lets see how that goes.
The doctor gave us some sample patches that look really cool. I looked up online and they also sell cloth patches with kids motives. So I told Mickey that our weekend project would be to go shopping for some fleece fabric and some appliqués and we will make our own.
I figure if we do various ones with things that he likes he will be more motivated to wear them. Instead of fighting with him to wear them in the mornings, we can make it like a game and choose which one he wants to wear. Wish me luck with this strategy! Yikes I really hope so.
Luis took the kids to Mc Donald’s for lunch and the first thing that some kids asked Mickey "Did you POP you eye out" Little Luis was upset as he felt that he was being mad fun of. I just hope that when he is back in school for Pre-K he is not teased by this.
On another note I was ready to take the boys a bath and went to give our fish "PJ " (beta fish my mom gave the kids over 2 years ago) and to my surprise he was dead, yes you read right dead! I had to explain to my boys what had happened and to make Mickey's day worst he was really upset by this and he asked me to take a picture of the "toilet funeral". He was better after I told him that we would go and pick out a new fish for them

Oh poor Luis and poor beta fish. I love that he wanted to remember his toilet funeral... so endearing.

Oh good idea Kris! I like the pirate idea. That's all the rage nowadays. Maybe you could sell him on wearing the patch that way, Noemi. All kids think pirates are cool! Poor little guy.. :(
Darn those mean kids. Poor little guy. I hope he's out of the patch soon.
Don't worry kids adjust fast. In a few days he won't even notice his eye patch. Tell him he looks cool like captain Jack from Pirates of the Caribbean.. Poor PJ, what a funeral....
What a traumatic day. How long do they think the eye patch will be needed? I think it's a great idea that you are going to make some fun ones. And I'm sorry about the fish. I like the toilet funeral though, I may need to use that some day.
