Bad Dreams = Lack of Sleep!

Do you ever remember when you were a child and you had those bad dreams and nightmares? I still do even though I can’t remember what they were about. I can still remember that bad sensation. You wake up and your heart is beating so fast and it feels so real…

Well my two youngest boys are having those bad dreams… I am trying to remember if Joey ever had a bad dream and wake up crying in the middle of the night. Nope I can’t remember not even one bad dream that he would have.

Little Luis has been having lots of bad dreams lately and it is frustrating when he can’t tell me what it was about. He wakes up crying and it is always around 2 and 3 in the morning. The instant I hear him my hearts pounds ever so fast! I go running across the house to his room trying not to step over Peanut Butter (My little dog) to go to his room. When I get there I just take him in my arms and rub his back till I get him back to sleep.

Last night it happened again around 2:30 am. I rushed to his side and calmed him down. Then around 3:30 am I hear a cry again buy as I am dashing from my bed I realize that it was not Little Luis and that it was Mickey. He was standing on his bed and as soon as I ran into the room he held his hands out as if he new that I was going to his aid.

I asked him what was wrong and he said “Mommy I had a bad dream with a Gorilla” I calmed him down but he did not want to sleep in his bed so I carried him to our room and laid him down to sleep.

At 4:00 am I hear another cry and dashed out of bed again to Little Luis side. Calmed him down and off to try and get at least ½ hour sleep as I wake up to work at 4:30. Needless to say I am very tired today.

I wonder what can be causing these bad dreams? I really do watch what the see on TV. Any suggestions? We always pray at night and that comforts Little Luis. I guess I am just frustrated with what can be causing them…

Could it be night terrors?! My little Abbey suffered with them for almost a year! It was hell.

I deal with this quite a bit with Sophia. I don't have to get her out of bed though....I just tell her to go back to sleep and everything is fine. It still does a number on me though.....I'm one that NEEDS my sleep!

WOW - yes I do remember having bad dreams and I still have them. Really spooky. Sorry you are going thru that with your little guy.

Both of my sons had this, and I'm going to tell you what worked for me. I bought each of them a dreamcatcher. It is an indian custom. they are strange looking weaved circles with feathers and beads that hang down. The indians believed that if you hung this above your head where you sleep that when the dreams floated down, the bad ones would be caught in the weaving. We have Cherokee in our heritage, so I thought this would be great. I explained the tradition to each of the boys and hung the dream catchers over their heads. AND I'm not kidding. No more bad dreams. I started it with Zach when he was around 9 and then years later when Tyler was 11. It works for them. Must be some type of subconscious thing.
